I’m up first again, I come downstairs for a cup of tea and find Cat at the back door. He’s yawning, he’s been out all night partying again. Heads straight to the food bowl, like a tramp on chips. I know what this means, for the rest of the day he’ll be asleep on Twin One’s bed. It’s the bedroom at the front of the house, the sunlight comes through the windows and he lies directly in it, basking like an Essex woman on holiday in Spain (I can say this, because I lived in Essex for a number of years and know the hypocrisy of this comment).

My mum has come out of hospital and is home, she has a friend staying with her, which my sister and I are very grateful for. I phone my mum to see how she is, she doesn’t seem herself but is pleased to be in her own home. She has come away with a bunch of new friends, the other ladies on the ward. Apparently in a worse state than herself, but in an evening they would all congregate on one bed ‘like three wise monkey’s’. Now, there’s an image.

I’m conscious that technically today marks the end of the half term week and Monday is the beginning of what is known as the summer term. I find half term’s easier than term time, which really was not the case pre the lockdown! I relished my child free term time and would end the half term exhausted and by the Monday be holding a cup of tea, silent tears of relief rolling down my face in front of daytime TV.

I tackle the ironing this morning, there isn’t much but I’ve cottoned on to the fact it’s better to get the boring stuff done in the week so there isn’t an overwhelming amount to be done on a weekend, which I resent because the rest of the household spend the entire time relaxing. Have totally lowered the presentation standards and only iron anything that really doesn’t look better after a good shake. I am interrupted by Twin Two who asks me ‘what does booty mean?’ I’m not really sure how to answer that and try to gauge where she has heard the term and in what context. She quickly bores of my questions and wanders off without an answer. No doubt to ask google. Make a mental note to check the google reply later.

I persuade Twin One to do some gardening with me, she quite likes a job and I need some pots filling. Happy to have some one to one time with Mummy she comes and helps. We re-pot some things and I let her plant some seeds on the basis we’ll wait and see if anything happens.

As it is Friday, Husband finishes work a bit earlier and takes the happy little people off for a bike ride. I pop over to my sister to drop some shopping I have for her and collect some bits she has for me. We play a quick game of table tennis in her garden before I head back for dinner duties. After dinner I ask Twin One to water our plants, I hear her in the garden watering each one individually and saying goodnight to it.
