At the point of writing this last blog, it has been 19 weeks since the beginning of lockdown. Whilst we are allowed more freedom, there are still many restrictions in place and life as we once knew it is no more. The economy has re-opened and we are able to visit shops in person more freely, however it is mandatory to wear a face covering when doing so. We can meet family and friends but it is recommended to do so outside, and we are still not allowed to hug or kiss anyone we don’t already live with.

Thankfully it is now the summer holidays so the home schooling pressure is lifted. The intention is for all children to return to school in September, myself and all the parents in the UK are crossing every finger and toe and hoping that it is safe to do so and we get to pack the little darlings off to someone with more patience (and who doesn’t look completely haggard and mutter profanities under their breath). As amazing as Joe Wicks is, I really don’t want to return to doing burpees in my lounge with the happy little people moaning throughout. But what will happen in September is yet to be experienced.

This has been an interesting time and an experience, which will be reviewed, studied and learnt from. Mistakes have been made, many lives lost and a path of uncertainty ahead, it isn’t over yet, we will be living with Covid-19 for a long time. For me, locked down with three happy little people, a working from home husband and Cat has been insightful. I have learnt to find peace amongst the chaos, recognised that I am a pretty good mother and care less about housework. This has enabled me to relax my tense shoulders a little and to stop trying to control things that cannot be controlled. I have found a community of women through my online yoga class, my relationship with my husband has improved and I discovered I’ve been wearing the wrong size bra for years.

I am still anxious about the virus and concerned for myself and my family if we were to catch it, but I also know tomorrow isn’t promised and we need to live. I hope the human kindness from this time continues, that scientists find a vaccine and effective treatments and that key workers receive financial recognition for all they’ve done throughout the pandemic. Mostly I hope my happy little people get to continue to be happy and healthy and that Cat will actually sit on my lap one day instead of swiping my legs for more food.
