Child One is on my case to go to our local park and collect a Pokemon. It’s 7:30am, I’m not really fully awake, but weigh it up and agree he can on the basis he comes straight back. We agree a time I’d expect him back by and that he is to ring me if he ends up being later than that time. In fairness the park is where his school bus stop is and pre-lockdown we allowed him to walk home from there solo. I clock the time and sort the girls some breakfast and make myself a second cup of tea. Within the time agreed Child One reappears ‘I got three Mum. And I wasn’t kidnapped, so bonus right?’

Between the Twins, Twin One is the most reluctant to engage in any form of school work at the moment. This isn’t normally the case, maybe the novelty of teacher mum has worn off. She has regressed a bit and is enjoying playing with dolls and toys, using her imagination. She ropes in Twin Two, but it all kicks off is Twin Two doesn’t comply with her ideas. I have a few of my childhood books on a shelf in my room. There is Roald Dahl, Winnie The Pooh, Marmalade Atkins to name a few. Twin Two picks the Enormous Crocodile to read, I try to persuade her to do some writing or drawing around this. She’s having none of it until Twin Two says she wants to do it!

I am in the process of sorting out a re-mortgage for our home. I am working with a local mortgage broker and have been collating the necessary paperwork in amongst looking after the happy little people. I find tasks such as these challenging and under normal circumstances would purposely do it during a school day, uninterrupted. It’s hard to do things like this when you are constantly interrupted. With three happy little people there are some days where I feel every 30 seconds one of them asks me something or needs something. I end up feeling really frazzled and like a computer browser with too many pages open all at once. Today I feel like this and I need to drive the paperwork to the mortgage broker. I take the Twins with me and chuck them a bag of crisps as a bribe to let me concentrate on the sat nav. Although I am used to having the twins 24/7, I had them from birth everyday till they went into the school system, it was a little easier when they didn’t speak and would sleep on a car journey. I spent so much time driving up the A1 junction with the heating on full, in the hope of just half an hour’s peace. They don’t sleep in the car anymore, they talk, at me, continuously.

When Child One was a toddler, he loved the film Ice Age, when the girls reached the same age, they also discovered it and loved it. The happy little people put the film on to eat their lunch, from the kitchen I can hear all three of them cracking up. It’s nice to hear.

With the new government changes that we are allowed to meet people outside for social distancing contact, I take the girls to see my friend who has got a puppy in lockdown. The puppy is called Dave and, as I expected, the girls are delighted to meet him and instantly love him. We walk with my friend, his girls and Dave the dog. Today I am the best mummy in the world. I didn’t realise how much I needed that bit of contact with other humans.
