This week is half term, however Child One is behind a bit on his school work so we’ve (he & I) have agreed that he does one school lesson a day for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week. I remind him that under normal school circumstances he would be getting homework each weekend, but he’s not and we only do a couple of hours online work a day. His school have issued a lot of work, we are only focusing on Maths, English and Science but still have quite a few outstanding lessons. Child One is a bright lad, so I’m not overly worried about him but he does have his Dad’s attitude towards school work. I call it ‘bare minimum’. They both will do the absolute minimum requirement they can get away with. Ironically if they applied themselves they would achieve way more than the average person because they have the capability, they just don’t want to do it. But when it comes to the Playstation… Consequently, I do find that I have to nudge Child One and encourage him to challenge himself. When that fails, good old fashioned black mail does the trick, he can’t play his Playstation unless he does the work.
During lockdown all of the children’s IT skills have improved and they have taken more interest in the laptops, doing a bit more than just watching YouTube. The only issue for the girls is them needing to share a laptop between them, otherwise I lose mine. Today there is no patience or pacifying them and I end up relenting and letting Twin One use my computer in order to get some peace. I clean the kitchen floor while all three happy little people are busy and don’t need me. The floor has got to that lovely phase where it’s so dirty the soles of your feet are filthy. As the peace continues longer than expected I extend the floor cleaning and try a bit of hoovering too. If I’m not careful it could be classed as a deep clean.
By the evening time I’m tired and in need of some down time, I opt for a film that I missed at the cinema, Last Christmas. I know it’s out of season but actually it was a perfectly timed watch and a good gratitude reminder.
