I set an alarm for this morning so I can partake in an online yoga class. After many years of searching I have finally found a lovely yoga teacher who suits me. Back in 2004 I lived elsewhere, had come out of a long-term unhealthy relationship but was doing two yoga classes a week with a really lovely teacher. I was probably the healthiest I’d ever been, physically and mentally. Since moving away in 2006 I have struggled to find the equivalent locally to where I live now. Finally, I have and in these lockdown times there are many online classes, live or pre recorded. I’m learning to be able to do them whilst simultaneously blocking out the happy little people in the background. So, I roll out of bed in my PJ’s, make a cup of tea and log in.

The Twins are in an emotional mood today; I think it’s in response to their father’s punishment for last nights bad bedtime behaviour. We put them to bed but because we are putting two seven year olds in the same room, instead of obediently settling down to sleep they quite often opt to have a party. We hear thumps as they are jumping from one bed to the other and giggles of delight at each other. Whilst all very Enid Blyton by this time in the evening Husband tends to lose patience with them and various threats of punishments such as no iPads, no TV etc are bellowed up the stairs, they just don’t care. Until the next day, when they realise he will follow through. Today they are not allowed the new camera’s my Mum gifted them yesterday for their birthday, and they’ve got the hump. Wailing at how unfair life is and that this is the worst day ever. No idea where they get their sense of drama from.

I try and distract them from their woes by getting them to help make lunch, it works and the mood in general is lifted. Having learnt from yesterday’s experience, I suggest that Husband doesn’t wait for me to take the happy little people out on their bikes. I point out that they don’t need me and actually I need a break from the constant demands, and I would like to do a few jobs that I can’t do whilst supervising three children. I have lost twenty-four hours per week where I could hear myself think. I am really feeling this loss, especially at this point eight weeks into lockdown. I don’t think he understands, but he is wise enough to know I will be a nicer human if he gives me a small break by taking them solo. So off he goes, two on bikes, Child One on foot seeking Pokemon.

In their absence I garden, re-potting the sunflowers that have outgrown their initial pots. It’s hot today so I fill the plastic turtle with water ready for the return of the happy little people.

I finish my day the way it started and do a second yoga session, I do this in the same PJ’s I’ve had on all day as I’ve completely soap dodged. It also helps by not adding to my ever full washing bins! Perhaps that should be hummmmmm not ommmmm.
