I’ve made it to another Friday! It’s felt like a long week, but I feel happier today than I have earlier in the week. I think part of my happiness is due to the fact Husband only works till around 1pm on a Friday and tends to help with the happy little people in the afternoons, which in turns gives me a break. This break makes such a difference, I really appreciate and value this window of time. I liked Fridays when the twins were babies. On a Friday I got a whole nights sleep. I would do all of the night feeds from Monday to Friday and I would do Saturday and Sunday, but Friday I handed over to Husband and he did the night shift with the Twins. I would go to my Dad’s house, which was only two streets away, I’d get to go into my old bedroom which had a very comfortable double bed and I got left to sleep 9 or 10 hours. A cup of tea in the morning, and breakfast with Dad before heading back to the chaos. Saturdays I felt like a human being and realised how sleep deprived I was for the rest of the week. Twin One never slept through, Twin Two did. It makes me wonder how I survived this time, but I did. And this is the reason I am an excellent cat napper and benefit from a mid-day twenty minutes rest.
Child One’s time keeping is a lax as mine. It’s 9:20am and he’s not started schoolwork despite me being a talking clock. The Twins have decided they want to do dancing in the lounge as PE today. Dance monkey is being played on a loop while Twin One creates a dance routine with passion. Twin Two is trying to contribute but Twin One is having none of it and is angrily bossing her about. It’s remarkable how much bossing Twin Two takes on board, but her tolerance also reflects her people pleasing, keep the peace, personality type.
It’s 10:30am, I’m not dressed, I’ve endured many dance presentations of two seven year olds throwing themselves around the lounge. I have a receptive, happy, impressed, face frozen on even though inside I am having flash backs to all the performances I made my own parents endure. Twin One is taking the performances very seriously and getting very angry when Twin Two does something which is not in the set routine. I’m wondering how long I am stuck here and weighing up the collateral damage if I just get up and leave the room.
Thankfully lunchtime arrives and Husband takes the happy little people out on a long bike ride, which provides an opportunity for me to eat lunch in peace and do some more gardening. I move three carnations from the front garden to pots because where they are planted they don’t get the sun they desire. They lean forward and are growing at an angle. There are lots of off spring on the plant too, so I experiment and put a few into water to see if they will grow roots and make new plants. Neighbours are also gardening out front so there are people to chat to at a safe distance, always nice to have a conversation with another adult. I seek reassurance of the carnation move with my gardening neighbour, her garden is much more organised and colourful than my own. She has peonies in her garden, I love peonies and am very envious of any garden which has them. We share a hatred of the naughty squirrels, who seem intent on trashing both of our gardens by raiding our potted plants and eating the flower heads. I am quite pleased to hear her use some colourful language whilst shooing one away from her clematis, makes me feel better for my own squirrel language!
