Today is Saturday and following last Saturday’s success of only doing what I want to do, I start the day with the same thought. I am keen to progress in the front garden, so I make a cup of tea and eat a pain au chocolate while I think about a plan. I eat the pain au chocolate off a pretty, old lady style, side plate. It’s one of two that I have picked up from the charity shop. They make me feel posh. I love the fancy pretty tea sets that are donated. Not concerned about their value (apparently some are valuable), it’s more how fancy they look. Both of Husband’s Grandmother’s gave me a tea set before they died, I’ve kept them safe. I’m a little worried to use them in case of damage and, for practical reasons, they don’t go in the dishwasher. And let’s face it, the cups only hold a mouthful of tea. I need two mugs of tea in the morning before I can even function properly. In amongst one of the tea sets there were three random side plates, which Cat has his treats and milk from so he can feel posh too. I think he likes them, I can tell by the way he bows his head and the fact he gives me a secret little meow of gratitude (he doesn’t, I’m wishful thinking like when I was a child and I would herd all the family cat’s into my bedroom and shut the door and say ‘it’s fine, you can talk now. You can trust me’ and they would all look at me blankly and wait for the door to re-open).

I head out to the front garden and do an hour or so of weeding. This garden will be a labour of love, but hopefully worth it. I need some plants for it, but I am reluctant to overspend online when I hope that garden centres may re-open soon and may have some offers available. There is a really nice charity garden centre near me, I am hoping that one re-opens too.

Husband sorts lunch for the happy little people and us. We are running low on a few items, even though it feels like all I do is food shopping. We plan to take the happy little people out on their bikes and walk via the supermarket. They can wait outside at a safe distance from others while I get what we need. Husband will carry the bags, he’s good like that. We get home and it appears it’s my turn to sort teatime food. This week’s selfish Saturday isn’t as successful as last week, for one I have spent far too much time with them. The happy little people don’t seem to notice my wanting to escape them, they spontaneously hug me and tell me they love me regardless of my mood. They hug me in the kitchen and notice that they can get all of their arms around me and join their hands. ‘Oooh mummy, you’re getting smaller, we couldn’t do that before’. Since January I have been trying to eat healthier and shift some pounds because my weight had got too high. This appears to be a new fat measuring technique, how much can the happy little people get their arms around my waist! Problem is if one does it, they all have to have another go, and then if she had two goes, then the other one has to have two goes and it’s Saturday and they are all touching me! Must try harder next week to social distance from them for a break. Selfish Saturday was a bit of a fail today, but secretly it was still an okay day, and I do love my happy little people. Husband presented me with the head of his chocolate Lindt bunny, can’t work out if it’s an act of love or he’s a feeder, but I ate it anyway.
