         This is week six, if it were the school summer break the end would be in sight, but currently there isn’t an end in sight for lockdown yet. I don’t know, but I think we could only be half-way through. I am hoping I am wrong, but I don’t see an easy way out of this situation. I’m no scientist or politician, but without some form of medicine of a vaccine how can we protect people and get a disease under control?

         Day one of a new routine – it’s only taken me five weeks to realise we need one. The day starts with PE of the happy little people’s choosing. They were fed up with Joe Wicks and I was fed up of their moaning all the way through it. They choose Just Dance on the Wii console, so they set it up and take it in turns to compete dancing against each other. While they are doing this, I set up the table with the laptop for Child One, he has got the hang of online school and has become more independent now he is familiar with the laptop and the school system. I source two iPads and set up Purplemash, which is the Twin’s school home learning computer system. I put the Twins clock downstairs so they can see it from the table; it has two hands and the spaces so they can understand time a little easier. PE 9-10am, work 10-11am. Break time is 11-11:30am. Bit more work of sorts 11:30 – 1pm. It’s all very ‘ish’ to be honest, but we’ll see how it goes. Whilst they are all occupied and the Twins can work the computer site fairly independently, I manage to do a thirty minute DVD Davina work out, which is satisfying. Only needed to holler the occasional instruction or profanity to stop being mean to each other. I chuck their lunch at them at 1pm and let them eat in front of the TV and take my own lunch upstairs for time in front of my TV. Husband takes the happy little people out for a bike ride and I enjoy the silence of the house in their absence. Today is going okay.

         Sadly, it wasn’t for long. I could hear the wailing from a distance and knew instinctively who it belonged to. It wasn’t Cat it was Twin One. She had fallen over into nettles and managed to sting her arms and legs quite badly. For the next forty minutes I console and apply a cold compress, distracting with Connect4, which she is actually getting quite good at. Obviously because I’m playing a game with one child the other two kick off and we end up with a bit of a Connect4 tournament which ends in more tears, though not Twin One because she won.

         The other things I realise following five weeks of being in lockdown;

  • If you put foot cream on every night, your feet actually become a lot softer and it does work.
  • I never liked jelly, however in lockdown I do. I really like it if you add squirty cream to the top of it.
  • When it is sunny, I like putting washing on the line. There is something satisfying and methodical about doing it and you feel virtuous for not using the tumble dryer.
