After dropping food shopping to my mum, I stopped two doors down at a friend’s who had very kindly set up some gardening stuff for me and left it on the drive. A whole load of prepped pots for seeds, tools, spare compost and a bug hotel. This will provide a few hours of activity for the happy little people, the deal is to report back on what we do, which will be a pleasure. As from Monday we are technically on two weeks of Easter holidays, my focus with the happy little people is more keeping them engaged rather than formal lessons or home schooling. To be fair, it’ll be the same approach the entire lockdown, but I’ll perhaps allow a bit more iPad free time over the next two weeks. The downside to having happy, healthy, bright mini-me’s is that they do need a challenge and interesting things to get engaged with. Sometimes I secretly long for sloths for children. Child One would happily spend the entire time on his playstation, but Husband has stolen his bedroom for work purposes, so he’s unable to get in there till the end of the day.

The weather is lovely again so we make good use of the garden and purposely choose to avoid venturing out further today. The twins are happy darting in and out, I tried to get them to teach me how to hula hoop and skip. They make it look so easy; I don’t understand why I find it impossible. Skipping is okay, I can manage that but only about five before I’m puffing. Hula hoop, completely rubbish. Twin One takes great joy in telling me it’s so easy and changing the hula hoop position from her waist to her knees and back, flawlessly.

Due to the weather, the washing machine is on all day and washing is on the line. Washing is my most tedious job, and as a family of five it just feels relentless, my washing baskets are never empty. I have learnt to accept that, and have stopped feeling frustrated by it. I had done the same with food shopping because it would stress me out that there was always something I’d forget from the list or no sooner had I got home from shopping a new list began. Again, I’ve accepted that, for us it was more economic to go little and often, which is hard now with the restrictions in place.  Fresh bedding for the Twins, which Cat immediately snuggles himself into. The Twins room is his favourite day spot because the sun streams in and warms the bed. Plus it’s really peaceful in their room (when they are not in it). It used to be my Dad’s bedroom. We live in what was my Dad’s home, when he died Husband and I took on a mortgage to buy my siblings out of the inheritance of the house that he left us. It was a conversation we had before his actual death and it felt like the right thing for us to do. We are very fortunate to be able to live here, and I love that the walls hold so many happy memories from when I lived here with my sister and the many years following our departures when he lived here solo.

Husband had promised the happy little people that they could watch a film and eat popcorn this evening. He chose them The Mask because they had loved other Jim Carrey films and Husband has a similar childish, slapstick sense of humour! Of course they thought it was hilarious and cackled all the way through. The Mask was originally released in 1994 and I remember myself and friends quoting from the film in what we thought were hysterical re-enactments. It’s even funnier now I see history repeating and listening to the happy little people quoting and pretending to put the mask on.
