Joe Wicks has a lot to answer for. I made so much effort on the pesky Spiderman lunges I can’t get up and down the stairs without pain. Child One is also complaining, but he does have skinny little legs so could do with building up a bit of muscle! No complaints from the Twins, I’m not convinced they actually did the lunges, I think that was when they were complaining and changing the Spiderman web gestures to Elsa from Frozen.

The happy little people didn’t wake me this morning, which is amazing. I found them sprawled across the sofa watching TV, having made themselves breakfast. Which meant there was a trail to clear up and milk over the floor where Cat will have swiped them for left over cereal milk. But the mess was worth the natural wake up, as opposed to waking to a warzone of he said, she said and whining.

We’ve had the caterpillars for a week now and they are getting enormous! It’s a live theatre production of The Hungry Caterpillar. I think I am more interested than the children. Though they have name them; Ronald, David, Gerald, John and Jeanette. I’ve checked the instructions and, apparently, we leave them in there till they start building cocoons. Wish I could build myself a cocoon to go into till the pandemic is over. Though in fairness, this lockdown is a more humane version.

The weather is lovely, and there is a lot of concern in the news about people disrespecting the lockdown and venturing out to parks and beaches. I know our local area will be busy with families out walking today, so make a conscious decision that we will stay home and use the garden instead. The happy little people don’t understand personal space as it is, let alone the concept of two metres. I also need to psychologically prepare myself to go and do a food shop for both myself and my Mum. I hate going but I dislike the Husband’s substitutes more, so need to put my big girl pants on. My plan is to go for the last hour that the shop is open as I find it is quieter at that time. And what other saddo wants to be food shopping at 7pm on a Saturday night?

I rediscovered The Penguin Café Orchestra today, I’d forgotten how much I liked their music. It really put a smile on my face to listen to them again. I discovered them in 2002 when I was teaching performing arts. Such fond memories of that time in my life. Young, single, carefree and building a career of sorts. Many like-minded, creative people to hang out with, lots of laughter. Music evokes so many memories, doesn’t it? When I popped to my neighbours to drop off their milk (we’ve added a pint to our order for them) they didn’t hear the doorbell because they were too busy rocking out to La Boheme! Music makes such a difference to the mood; I’d forgotten what a great self-help tool it is.

We all venture into the garden, the kids are happy to play, Husband sorts the shed and I do some weeding. Last year I worked with a friend to overhaul the garden, to make it a more useable space and tidier to look at. So, pleased I decided to do that as it is proving so valuable now. Husband chucks some old cardboard boxes at the children, who are delighted to build a forte from them. Cat tries to join them; he has a tendency to attempt to get into the smallest boxes available. It’s ridiculous to watch, he soon gets fed up of being picked up by his armpits and heads off to one of the Twin’s beds, his favourite daytime sleeping spot. Twin One has hijacked my music speaker, so no more Penguin Café Orchestra, it’s replaced with ‘pop’ music.

There is an old oak tree behind our garden, which I watch all year round and have done for many years. I can see it from my bedroom and from lying in my bed. Sometimes there is an owl that we hear from it and many squirrel and pigeon families gather in it. I’m sure I just saw a trio of squirrels doing Twin One’s dance routine to ‘Baby, I’m a firework…’
