It’s not really going well in our house, there is no harmony amongst the children, Husband and I are both pretty stressed but not on the same page and there really is no routine. Husband’s focus is income and therefore is working long hours, my focus is how to cope with such long days. The children get up around 6am, they have always been early risers and they don’t all get settled in bed till about 9pm. There are no windows of respite at the moment apart from the odd facetime to family to do virtual reading. Really need to set out a bit of a pattern and get more organised but that’s hard to do when you are asked something on average every 30 seconds. So we are winging it, we didn’t even do Joe Wicks, to be honest a bit of a relief as the past two days of him is probably the most exercise I’ve done in a while and I questioned if I had flu this morning with the aches. Instead I had a bath while the children were glued to something on TV and eating Wotsits. Am feeling overwhelmed and not very good at this home schooling malarkey.

We did a lunchtime yoga class instead of Mr Wicks today, I enjoyed it. The children talked all the way through it and there was the odd ‘don’t touch me’ whine, but I did my best to block them out. We tried the Lego challenge but with Duplo, it was to create a rollercoaster. It delivered a rollercoaster of meltdowns so we aborted that quite quickly. I put them back in front of the TV for lunch, Aladdin film, Twin Two thinks the Genie is hilarious and has the best cackle which I can hear from the kitchen. While they are eating lunch, I sneak into the garden with my phone to make an SOS call to my gardening friend. I would like to explore the garden with the children over the coming weeks, I’ve ordered seeds but know I will struggle to find time to set things up so they can do planting. Imagine trying to push sand up a hill with your hands, that’s my life with three happy little people. Thankfully he was happy to help me by creating some seed trays, which I can collect from a safe distance and use at home. He is also going to think of some gardening challenges for the children, which will be great.

After lunch I let Twin One measure out ingredients and I make them pancakes. Home economics? There was still moaning after taking about five seconds to eat them and they leave me with another mess to clear up, including sugar all over the floor. I gave the twins a job to take out the washing in the machine which is in the shed in the garden and hang it on the line. When I follow up, they’ve taken the washing from the basket that was waiting to go IN the machine and hung up all the dirty washing. How long till the Husband finishes work? I am finding myself clock watching like when the children were babies, desperately waiting for some adult company and help.

Finally, five pm arrives and I sneak off to the bedroom for a brain rest and let Husband sort the children’s tea and be the referee of the bickering. I phone one of my lovely charity shop volunteers to see how they are and it is so nice to have an adult conversation. She is an artist and is also up for engaging with the children and setting some art challenges, which is great. Feeling like the home schooling might be more possible but will be in a less traditional and more organic manner. Well, that’s the plan but we all know what happens to plans.
